Scott Whitley is head of the medical malpractice department at Morgan & Morgan’s Tampa office.  The firm is the largest injury law firm in the country.  It has grown from 14 lawyers in Orlando and Tampa in 1996 to over 500 lawyers in over 40 cities nationwide.

Scott has over 35 years of experience handling significant injury cases and medical malpractice cases.  His practice has been almost exclusively medical malpractice for the past 24 years.  He has obtained many multi-million-dollar settlements and verdicts on behalf of injured clients.

Scott grew up in Union, New Jersey.  He attended the College of William & Mary on a basketball scholarship.  He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1981.  That same year he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers of the NBA.  In 2009 Scott was elected into the William & Mary Athletic Hall of Fame.

He began his legal education at Stetson College of Law in 1982.  He received his law degree in 1985 from the University of Florida College of Law.

Scott began his legal career in Miami.  He worked for 5 years at a firm specializing in insurance defense.  He moved to Tampa in 1991 and spent 5 years with Rywant, Alvarez, Jones & Russo representing insurance companies and their insureds.

Scott joined Morgan & Morgan in 1996 and started the medical malpractice department in Tampa in 1997.  That same year he became Board Certified in Civil trial Law, an honor achieved by less than 3% of Florida lawyers.  He continues to be Board Certified.  In 2003, he was admitted to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) which is an invitation only group of elite plaintiff and defense lawyers as well as judges.

Scott has been happily married to his wife, Laura, for 22 years.  They have two daughters, Gabby (20 years) and Lexi (19 years), who are currently attending college.
