Jose M. Pimiento, MD., FACS

Dr. Jose M. Pimiento is a Surgical Oncologist at Moffitt Cancer Center. He leads the Upper Gastrointestinal section of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program and specializes in the management of gastric (stomach) and esophageal malignancies. His practice is focused on minimally invasive approaches including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Dr. Pimiento has helped develop a comprehensive robotic program for the management of upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic tumors, making Moffitt Cancer Center a national leader in this field.

Dr. Pimiento is originally from Colombia where he earned his MD degree at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He completed a general surgery residency at Saint Mary’s Health System/Affiliated Yale University School of Medicine and a Fellowship in Surgical Research in Vascular Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. He then completed a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology and Advanced Fellowship in Surgical Oncology Research at Moffitt Cancer Center.

Dr. Pimiento is inspired by the courage of his patients. He understands that a cancer diagnosis is always life changing for people and he feels privileged to be chosen to be part of his patients’ journey. He is committed to delivering the highest quality of care for his patients and he is supported by an amazing multidisciplinary team at Moffitt, the only National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center in Tampa.
