Dr. Maria I. Hicks, MD is an award-winning, board-certified Dermatologist, who is fluent in Spanish and English. She earned her medical degree from Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud CES in Medellin, Colombia  in 1996; she completed her first Dermatology Residency training and served as chief resident in 2001. 

She moved to the United States in 2002 and completed a three-year program in clinical research with the Dermatology Department at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Her extensive written works in dermatology have been published worldwide, in both English and Spanish, such as national peer-review journals and medical books. 

Dr. Hicks completed two years of Internal Medicine Residency in 2008 followed by a second Dermatology Residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. She became a Board Certified Dermatologist in 2011.  She relocated to  the Tampa Bay area where she continues to work as a dermatologist, researcher, and lecturer.

She joined Dr. Seth Forman, MD at ForCare Medical Center in early 2019; they trained together at Geisinger Medical Center and are proud to be working together again. Dr. Hicks has a passion for Dermatology, she is warm with the staff and patients; she spends ample time with patients and strives for quality care. Dr. Hicks treats a wide area of general dermatology, including the prevention, detection and treatment of skin cancer, as well as other disorders of the skin, hair and nails affecting all age groups, genders, and ethnicities. She has a special interest in hair loss disorders, and has a hair clinic where she uses different modalities  including plasma rich platelet (PRP) therapy and stem cells to treat different types of hair loss; such as, telogen effluvium, male and female androgenic alopecia among others.  

Dr. Hicks additionally joined an exceptional team of Investigators at ForCare Clinical Research. This is an independent, multi-specialty, state of the art clinical research facility created in 2012 and has focused on providing access to novel treatment and therapies for both chronic and acute conditions with a team of Investigators having over 40 years of combined research experience and a proven record of successful execution of Phase I through Phase IV industry-led trials. Our team of Investigators are board certified in dermatology, rheumatology, internal medicine, family practice and dermatopathology.
