Loren Rhoton is an experienced and skilled criminal appeals and post conviction attorney who fights for those wrongfully convicted of criminal offenses. His practice consists exclusively of criminal appeals and post conviction relief, in both state and federal courts. As an expert post conviction attorney, Mr. Rhoton seeks constitutional relief for his clients such as acquittals, new trials, and resentencing. Mr. Rhoton has 24 years of experience in federal and state criminal appeals and specializes in post conviction relief. His state-wide practice handles a multitude of criminal matters and inmate issues and regularly helps clients with complex criminal charges.

Mr. Rhoton is a member of Florida Bar Appellate Division. He is also a member of the United States District Court, in and for the Middle, Southern, and Northern Districts of Florida. Mr. Rhoton practices before the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and is also certified to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

As a post conviction specialist Mr. Rhoton has been called on for consultation by judges, attorneys, and the Florida Bar for his expertise in post conviction law. Due to the nature of his work, Mr. Rhoton typically deals with clients who have lengthy prison sentences. Mr. Rhoton has investigated and pursued thousands of post conviction cases on behalf of inmates in Florida. He has practiced in all phases of the Florida Judicial System, from misdemeanor county courts up to the Florida Supreme Court, and takes on cases across the state. Additionally, Mr. Rhoton has been directly responsible for amendments to Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.850 (the main vehicle for most post conviction actions).

Mr. Rhoton was appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to the Florida Criminal Rules Steering Committee, Subcommittee on Post Conviction Relief, which focused on rewriting Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.850. Mr. Rhoton worked on the subcommittee with judges and other governmental officials in an effort to improve the administration and execution of post conviction proceedings.

Mr. Rhoton served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Prisoner’s Legal Aid Organization, Inc. Mr. Rhoton now publishes the Florida Postconviction Journal, a quarterly newsletter provided free of charge to Florida prisoners. Selected articles from Mr. Rhoton have been compiled and printed in the book Postconviction Relief for the Florida Prisoner. Mr. Rhoton also wrote the Post Conviction Forms for the Florida Prisoner form book.

In 2017, Mr. Rhoton was named in the Best of Tampa Bay Profile series published in the Tampa Bay Times.
