Otolaryngology
Bayfront Health Medical Group Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery

Dr. Julia Pfaff is a board-certified otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeon with Bayfront Health Medical Group. She specializes in treating a full spectrum of disorders of the head and neck, including sinus disease, allergies, head and neck cancer, disorders of the voice, salivary gland disorders, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, and sleep apnea.

Dedicated to providing exceptional care, Dr. Pfaff relates to her patients on a personal level, saying, “I knew I wanted to be a surgeon when I had thyroid surgery as a third-year medical student. That experience shaped my career as a physician and led me to pursue otolaryngology–head and neck surgery.”

In addition to her passion for minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery, Dr. Pfaff’s commitment to patient care was recently recognized by Inspire, naming her as a Physician of Excellence. Dr. Pfaff is among just a few physicians in Florida to perform the Inspire implant procedure, offering her patients the latest innovation in the surgical treatment of sleep apnea. For those with obstructive sleep apnea who do not benefit from traditional CPAP therapy, the Inspire device is an effective alternative, treating the underlying cause of sleep apnea, not just the symptoms. The FDA-approved surgical implant is placed under the skin of the chest. Through a connection to the hypoglossal nerve, the device stimulates the muscles of the tongue and airway, keeping them from collapsing into the airway and significantly reducing breathing disruptions.

Dr. Pfaff earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, and followed with a master’s degree in public health from the Drexel University School of Public Health in Philadelphia. After graduating from medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida, Dr. Pfaff returned to Philadelphia to complete a residency in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery and facial plastic surgery at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Pfaff is currently the department chairman of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Bayfront Health, where she also serves on the hospital’s Medical Council, Standards and Credentialing Committee, and Surgical Steering Committee. She also serves on national Physician Advisory Boards for the Ambu medical corporation and the Inspire Corporation. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, American Medical Association, Florida Osteopathic Medical Association and Florida Medical Association.
