Tampa sweet tooths, get ready to get a little salty.

Miami-based doughnut shop The Salty Donut is opening two Tampa locations next year — a retail location in Hyde Park Village and a commissary operation in Seminole Heights.

The Hyde Park Village location, at 1519 W Swann Ave., will feature a pushed-back storefront with an “outdoor living room feel,” according to a news release. The Seminole Heights spot, at 5805 N Florida Ave., will take over an oak-lined property and historic building with a bungalow. That spot, which will act primarily as a commissary kitchen, is billed as a “boho-chic, rustic ‘retail production works,’” according to Salty Donut CEO Andy Rodriguez.

The entire concept began way back in 2014. Before there was a brick-and-mortar, owners Amanda Pizarro and Andy Rodriguez were renting space in a commissary kitchen and popping up at Miami events in a 1950’s vintage aljoa camper. The pair had then, and maintains today, a fierce passion for a damn fine donut.

The pair dreamed of a community gathering place “centered around donuts, coffee, and good vibes. A place you could have a first date, celebrate a birthday, or cheer you up after a long day.”

Once open, the Tampa locations will feature the shop’s time-tested menu plus a few signature flavors “inspired by the neighborhood.”

No word on an exact opening date, but fans should start checking their calendars in early 2023.
