Consultant Radiation Oncologist at CyberKnife of Tampa Bay

Sophia Edwards-Bennett, M.D., Ph.D., DABR is a board-certified Radiation Oncologist, known to all her patients as Dr. EB. 

She promulgates that it is an honor to be entrusted by her patient’s most precious gift, their lives, at one of the most critical, defining and vulnerable times in their journey. As such, she harbors deeply unwavering passion to extend excellent care to all her patients.  Dr. EB is licensed and practices in multiple states in the US, including Florida where she resides and serves as a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at CyberKnife of Tampa Bay, rendering treatment to  both international and national patients.  Prior to completing the Cancer Therapeutics Post-Graduate Cancer Therapeutics and Research Program at Harvard University, Dr. Edwards-Bennett earned her Medical degree from Cornell University Weill Medical College and completed Residency training in Radiation Oncology at The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  She also holds a Ph.D. in Bio-organic Chemistry; and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica.

Dr. EB has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles, serves (& served) as an Editorial Reviewer for multiple journals including Cancer; and is the principal investigator of several ongoing research protocols.  Dr. Edwards-Bennett has presented at numerous medical conferences, both nationally and internationally. She has also imparted her knowledge about cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment in the media, via TV and radio shows in the US and Jamaica including “The Big C with Dr. EB”.

Dr. EB serves on both local, national, and international committees; including the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) Educational Membership Committee, executed Chairmanship of The Lung Cancer Committee at the Collaborative NCCN-CAOH (Caribbean Association of Oncology and Hematology) Conference – co-authoring the 2018 NCCN Harmonized Guidelines for Cancer Treatment in the Caribbean. She is currently a member of the Caribbean Physicians Network (CPN) of the Cancer Treatment Centers of American (CTCA) International Alliance; and remains committed to ‘giving back’ to the Caribbean, particularly to her native country, Jamaica.

Dr. Edwards-Bennett was named Strathmore’s Who’s Who Professional of the Year in Radiation Oncology for two consecutive years – 2018 & 2019.  She was also recently granted The Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award, 2019 and Best Doctors in America 2018/2019.  Dr. EB was selected by The American Health Council as America’s Best in Medicine, 2018-2019.  Dr. Edwards-Bennett also received the Oxford Who’s Who Elite Physicians Award, 2019.  She is the recipient of the prestigious Top Doctors Leading Physicians of the World Award as well as ‘Top Doctor Award Florida and South Carolina’ by The International Association of Radiologists. In addition, she was most honored to receive the following awards based on patient votes, as reported by Vitals ‘On-time – Physician Promptness Award’ Least waiting room time for patients and  ‘The Patients Choice Award’ in recognition of her commitment and care for cancer patients.  Although her national and international cancer education engagements demand much travel, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two daughters, watching and playing tennis, and reading.
