Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital
A South Carolina Lowcountry native, Dr. Shannon Ivey has found her home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. More than the oak trees draped in moss, beautiful creeks and bayous, cypress swamps, and abundant wildlife, the friendly community of Tarpon Springs drew her here and made her feel welcome. She is the proud owner of Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital, featuring a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, separate cat hospital, her home, and an updated boarding facility nestled on five acres of a tranquil wooded sanctuary in Tarpon Springs.
Dr. Ivey earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Clemson University and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee, where she was fortunate to be involved in the medical care of their mascot Smokey and several of the Anheuser Busch Clydesdale horses. From serving as President of her Student Veterinary Medical Chapter to President of several Local Veterinary Medical Associations in Memphis and Shelby County, TN and in Sarasota County, FL, Dr. Ivey has always been active in local veterinary medical leadership and education. At Hidden Oaks, she is happy to work with student volunteers and interns, fostering close relationships with the St. Petersburg College Veterinary Technology program and the Tarpon Springs High School Veterinary Science Academy. In fact, the year 2020 was unique for Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital in that its employees/alumni represented all three levels of educational achievement earning High School, Veterinary Technology, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees!
While practicing veterinary medicine during a pandemic has presented some unique challenges, Dr. Ivey and her team have diligently maintained the highest standards of care and provided patients and clients with the personalized, compassionate treatment to which they are accustomed. She has incorporated telemedicine, increased prescription and pet food home delivery, provided outdoor client seating, performed outdoor exams and peaceful euthanasia in the butterfly garden, and implemented contactless payments to help adapt to our changing situation. Regardless of the current demands, Dr. Ivey and her team have continued to practice the highest levels of veterinary care, including advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, Sevo- and Isoflurane anesthesia, digital radiology (x-rays), ultrasonography, dentistry, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, Class IV Laser therapy, cryotherapy, behavioral consults, and dermatology. Dr. Ivey also welcomes a board-certified cardiologist to the practice monthly for echocardiograms and consultations. Despite less than 15% of veterinary hospitals earning the distinction of American Animal Hospital Association Accreditation, she is proud to have just celebrated the hospital’s 25th year as an AAHA Accredited Hospital! Further recognition came as Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital was presented with the Best of Tarpon Springs Animal Hospital Award of 2020!
Through Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital’s support of local animal charities and donations to disaster relief causes, Dr. Ivey strives to have a positive impact on the Tampa Bay community. She also remains committed to community involvement when not in the office. Inspired by her daughter Arwyn, a Double Bassist, she absolutely loves her time spent with the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts, Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and the Pinellas Youth Symphony. She is extremely honored to actively serve on the Board of Directors for the Pinellas Youth Symphony.
As light filters through the Spanish moss on the oak trees and the deer and turkey roam the grounds, it is easy to see why Dr. Ivey is glad that her home is attached to the vet hospital and why her patients feel so comfortable when they come to Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital for medical care and to board at its newly remodeled spa. The warmth and hospitality of Dr. Shannon Ivey is well matched by the current medical therapies practiced at Hidden Oaks Animal Hospital where your pets will feel at home, too.
