General Counsel for GTE Financial

Residing in Tampa with her husband Alex and their dog Patch, Marie D. Campbell’s life reflects a balance between high-level legal advocacy and a grounded commitment to her community. Her story is a testament to the impact one individual’s dedication and skill can have on the fabric of a city’s corporate and legal culture.

Campbell is a beacon of legal prowess in Tampa Bay’s corporate landscape. Serving as the General Counsel for GTE Financial, Marie oversees the intricate tapestry of legal and regulatory compliance functions at one of the region’s most recognizable credit unions. Her work as Vice President is underscored by a sharp legal intellect and an unwavering commitment to ethical leadership.

Her arrival at GTE Financial in 2014 marked the inception of an internal legal department crafted by her strategic vision. The success of this endeavor catapulted Marie to the position of General Counsel within a year. In this capacity, she deftly manages litigation, guides compliance strategy, and cultivates a culture of risk management that supports the organization’s growth ambitions.

Marie’s journey from Jamaica to the legal echelons of Florida is a tale of determination and natural aptitude. With a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law, where she was a scholarship recipient, Marie’s path was shaped by her father’s belief in her destiny as a lawyer—a belief she has more than justified.

Prior to GTE, Marie’s experience as a senior managing attorney at McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce, LLC, primed her for the complex legal challenges she faces today. Her expertise spans various facets of civil litigation, including mortgage foreclosure, real estate, and bankruptcy, representing major creditors and advocating for her clients with vigor and resolve.

In 2020, Marie’s excellence was spotlighted by a Tampa Bay Business Journal nomination for top corporate counsel. A testament to her professional stature, she’s an active member of the George Edgecomb Bar Association and the Hillsborough County Bar Association. Her commitment to diversity and leadership is further exemplified through her membership in the Tampa Bay Women’s C-Suite Group.

In alignment with GTE’s commitment to financial literacy and giving back, Marie generously contributes her expertise to community initiatives, offering educational support in mortgage foreclosure and bankruptcy and has offered pro bono legal services to our community. Her passion for the law also finds an outlet in academia as an adjunct professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
