Florida Oncology & Hematology

For more than a decade, Dr. Jose Alemar has served the Tampa Bay area as a Board-certified medical oncologist. Born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he received an undergraduate degree from the University of Puerto Rico and received medical training from the same university. Upon moving to the United States and settling in Florida, he pursued a residency in internal medicine and then a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of South Florida and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Alemar has been practicing medicine for more than 18 years and is trained in treating various types of cancers including those that are challenging and rare.

He found his passion for medicine and, more specifically, oncology at the young age of 15 after a close friend was diagnosed with lymphoma. He attributes this experience as to what defined his career and loves all aspects of the medical profession, from working with patients to treating simple cases as well as investigating the most challenging and rare diseases. Throughout his career, Dr. Alemar has had the opportunity to partner with physicians from across the country to ensure his patients receive the best care close to home.

Dr. Alemar’s passion to serve his community is stronger than ever. In July 2023, he opened Florida Oncology & Hematology. The community-based medical oncology and hematology practice is equipped to deliver the latest cancer care and therapies. The clinic includes private exam rooms and an on-site infusion room for patients, as well as on-site lab services, in-house pathology services, an in-house specialty pharmacy, and care management support and financial counseling for patients.

His mission is to offer comprehensive care that combines the latest advancements in oncology with a warm and compassionate approach. Treatment plans are individualized because we know that not all patients nor their cancers are the same. From diagnosis to survivorship, the practice provides a full spectrum of services, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and supportive care, in a comfortable and caring environment.

Community-based medical oncology practices are the key to closing the cancer care gap and ensuring these critical services remain accessible and affordable to all cancer patients. Florida Oncology & Hematology helps cancer care remain affordable and accessible, which are two key components that can improve the care journey and outcomes.

Dr. Alemar loves residing in the Tampa Bay area with his wife, two children and their two golden retrievers. He speaks both English and Spanish.
