In a career that has spanned over 25 years, Dr. Jodie Smith has been caring for beloved furbabies and their families as if they were her own.
From her first day as a new associate veterinarian to becoming a seasoned practice owner, her goal was compassion and care for the patient and empathy and understanding for the family.
She came to know generations of families as she helped to grow a two doctor practice in her hometown of Astoria, NY to a large multi doctor practice. These clients still reach out to her even today for advice and just to update her on how their families are doing.
This confirms Dr. Smith’s belief that the best veterinarians are like the “family doctors” of the past. “We are there for your furbaby and your family from cradle to grave, helping through the best times and the hardest.”
Her passion for caring for others started long before her veterinary studies and career. As a young girl, after losing her beloved first dog to what could have been a preventable infection, she became determined to help prevent suffering of animals and their families, through knowledge and empathy.
Raised by a single mom, she learned she could succeed at anything she put her mind to despite any obstacles in the way. She earned multiple scholarships and honors through her academic career and graduated summa cum laude from NYU and magma cum laude from OSU vet school.
Dr. Smith and her family moved to the Clearwater/Tampa area 2 years ago. She has found new purpose at Metzler, as a mentor to newer vets as well expanding her skill set with a recent certification in Ultrasonography to continue giving her patients the best care possible each day. She is now expanding “her fur family” in Florida.
