Dr. Jinny Gunn is a proud Florida native, born and raised in Merritt Island. She honorably served her country in the U.S Navy following high school, then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California. After completing her undergraduate studies, she returned to the sunshine state to pursue a medical degree at Florida International University in Miami. Dr. Gunn completed her five year surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Early in her residency, she selected breast surgery as a subspecialty, which allowed her to tailor her last year of training to focus on the surgical management of breast disease.  

She is a a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, The Society of Surgical Oncology, and has held multiple positions within the Florida Medical Association. Her clinical and research interests include the surgical management of breast disease, skin sparing, nipple sparing and oncoplastic techniques. She uses innovative techniques, including utilizing wireless localization and aesthetic scar incision placement. In addition to breast care, she also offers surgical treatment for melanoma, benign skin diseases, anorectal problems and minimally invasive approaches for hernia repair. 

A message from Dr. Jinny Gunn:  

“My first experience with breast cancer came when I was a teenager and my beloved aunt was diagnosed in her early 40’s. I watched her fight a long, painful and emotional journey with a disease that ultimately took her life. The profound effect of this experience fueled my desire to pursue a career caring for women and men diagnosed with breast cancer. Furthermore, this shaped my commitment to provide patients with personal and caring medical staff during one of life’s most difficult times. Fortunately, there have been countless advances in the treatment of breast cancer since my aunt’s diagnosis leading to greater survival rates and increased hope. I am passionate about providing innovative and integrative care to my patients while realizing the importance of the body, mind and soul connection in healing. While each healing journey is unique I am happy to extend hugs and prayers to my patients who request it. As well as, provide nutritional and spiritual information all of which are shown to improve the overall health and wellness of patients. I am excited to be part of a journey that often has a beautiful and empowering ending.” 

In her spare time, Dr. Gunn enjoys spending time with her family, reading, kayaking and traveling. She has had the opportunity to serve in multiple other countries as part of medical mission teams, and has operated in Brazil, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Haiti. Dr. Gunn says she is excited to be part of the Saint Petersburg community, and looks forward to a long career in this area, dedicated to helping those in the community in their time of need.
