Dr. Jay Justin Older is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids. Dr. Older graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rutgers University where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He earned his medical degree and completed a residency in ophthalmology at Stanford University. Following his fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at The University of California in San Francisco, he was recruited by The University of South Florida Ophthalmology Department to teach residents about diseases and surgery of the eyelids, orbit and lacrimal system. While teaching at the university, Dr. Older started his private practice to assist patients with medical or cosmetic issues related to the eyelids.
Dr. Older has lectured on the subject of eyelid surgery throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. His textbook, Eyelid Tumors: Clinical Diagnosis and Surgical Treatment received an award from the American Medical Writers Association in 1988. An updated version was published in 2003. His additional publications include 45 articles in scientific journals and 20 book chapters. He has served on the editorial board of numerous ophthalmology journals.
Dr. Older is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology from which he received both the Honor Award and the Senior Honor Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Education. He is Past President of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Honorary listings include Best Doctors in America, Leading Physicians of the World, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Town and Country Magazine where he was featured as one of the nation’s top oculoplastic surgeons. Dr. Older was chosen Physician of the Year by the Tampa Bay Business Journal in 2004.
