Dr. Michael P. Strolla is a board-certified addiction medicine physician and a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine with over 20 years of experience in the field. He has excellence in clinical practice as well as enjoyment in teaching fellows and medical students (from UF, USF and NOVA) and has maintained his status as a leader and advocate in the addiction field of medicine.
He was the Medical Director of an addiction treatment program in Tampa for 15 years before he opened his own private practice. He is now the owner and Medical Director of Tampa Bay Recovery Care and for 16 plus years has also been the Medical Director of ACTS (Agency for Community Treatment Services). Dr. Strolla specializes in treating the disease of addiction as well as maintenance medical therapy which includes detoxification and stabilization. He is a top evaluator in the state of Florida for the licensed professional monitoring agencies including PRN, IPN, FLA and including the corresponding Boards involved for medical professionals in need of support. He also assisted many facilities as their Medical Review Officer.
He has been published in The Journal of Addictive Diseases and many internet articles including the Penny Hoarder as an expert reference. He has also been used as an informative source for many TV news stations in the Tampa area on the current addiction subjects and issues plaguing society.
Dr. Strolla was born in Yonkers and then raised in Monroe, New York. He graduated Cum Laude from Union College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, while also playing college football. He then graduated from NYCOM with his medical degree and completed his initial training in Family Medicine at Westchester Medical Center serving as chief resident. After focusing his medical career on addiction medicine, he moved to Tampa in 2004 and completed his fellowship training in Addiction Medicine at the University of Florida.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Strolla was instrumental in assisting the U.S. Drug Czar in formulating the prescription drug monitoring system used today to help reduce the current drug epidemic. He has assisted many people in their fight against the disease of addiction, helping them in many ways by giving a compassionate, honest and humble approach. His passionate treatment includes not only office based but home detoxification and maintenance. He works with many local and national medical societies and served as a board member of the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine for many years.
In his free time, Dr. Strolla enjoys his family, consisting of his mother and sister. He also collects fine art, enjoys fine cuisine and loves to spend time with his animals and local sports teams.
